Church Hill

Church Hill is known for being the site of the second revolutionary convention where founding father, Patrick Henry gave his famous "Give me liberty of give me death" speech at St. John's Church. The area is also known for Chimborazo Park, which was once the site of the largest Civil War hospital in the United States. Now, this space holds a museum where visitors can learn about the medical practices of the 1860s. The streets of Church Hill are lined with historic homes dating back to the late 1700s, but in the 1950s people started to realize that many of the buildings started to show signs of deterioration. The Historic Richmond Foundation was established in 1956 to conserve the setting of St. Johns Church and revitalize the surrounding neighborhood. Now Church Hill is filled with quaint restaurants, cafes and parks that people from all over the area come to see.
