Your Mama: "Where? You live where? Short Dump?"

You: "No Mom, SHORT PUMP."

Short Pump--more than a funny name. At least it's not Arbacoochee, AL--which is a real place that my granddaddy used to tease me about--for reasons that are still unclear to me, but it's fun to say. Back to the name. Short Pump was named for the short handled pump that was located beneath the porch of a tavern located there. The tavern was built by Robert Hyde Saunders, a Revolutionary War veteran in 1815.  Again, this area is a historic one—our founding fathers and a number of other historical figures traveled through Short Pump on their way to Richmond, or to areas west into the Blue Ridge Mountains. Need more retail therapy? Short Pump Towne Center offers any store you could imagine--if you can't find it here, you probably don't need it. Much like the Kendra Scott earrings, I couldn't live without--the called my name, I just politely answered.

There are a few restaurants in Short Pump that you really don't want to miss--

Burger Bach-gourmet burgers and fresh hand-cut fries. Cutting back? No worries, every burger is served with a side salad. Make sure you choose the oil based vinaigrette—yum!

KONA GRILLE- whatever you do, get the noodle bowl--and whatever you do, get the slice of carrot cake for dessert--and whatever you do, DON'T try and eat all that cake yourself--share with the table, I promise you'll still have some to take home. When I say the SLAB of cake is as big as your face...I ain't lyin.

It should also be noted that many families make move out to the county--Short Pump, Glen Allen, etc. for the schools, the space, and the luxury family homes and townhomes.
